Mathematics
At Friarage, we use the White Rose Maths scheme to support our planning and teaching of Maths. Strong foundations are built in EYFS as children are given limitless opportunities to explore the mathematical world around them. White Rose Maths aligns perfectly with the new early learning goals and enhances children’s learning with high quality resources.
As our children move through school into Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, they partake in daily maths lessons where White Rose Math’s principals are at the core. As teachers, we echo the scheme’s fundamental belief that ‘everyone can do maths’ with the appropriate scaffold and support. This ensures that pupils become confident and resilient mathematicians. Alongside the daily maths lessons, children’s mathematical understanding is enriched with a daily 15 minute Big Maths CLIC (Counting, Learn It’s, It’s Nothing New and Calculation) session. During these sessions children practice important key facts such as times tables, number bonds and the four operations in a fun, fast and fluent way. While White Rose Maths is the ‘spine’ of our maths curriculum we supplement and enrich the scheme with content from other highly regarded maths websites such as, NCETM, NRICH and TTRockstars. This provides all children with an enhanced, well rounded and high-quality maths diet. It also ensures that all children are appropriately challenged.
We encourage children in Key Stage 1 to practice key maths facts on Numbots and children in Year 2 upwards to practice their times tables on TTRockstars. Both of these can be accessed at home, please ask your child’s teacher if you are unsure of your child’s log in.
